The evolution of Web 2.0 helped to socialize the World Wide Web. Websites provided a platform for a vehicle for two-way communication through blogs or web logs. A blog or a web log is a vehicle that adds entries in reverse chronological order on a website and is similar to journal entries. A blog is a means of expression and may take the form of a personal diary, daily pulpit, political platform, a vehicle for news reporting, sports log, an outlet for thoughts and communication with the world. Blogging is the process of composing a blog post. A blogger is a person who updates and maintains the blog. A blogosphere is an online community of blogs and bloggers.

More than one person may maintain and update a blog on a regular basis. Blog subjects are unlimited and topics may be as diverse as the people are who write the blogs. There are political blogs and blogs on hobbies such as photography, music, crafts or sports. Blogs connect people and many blog communities have attracted groups of people with similar interests and concerns Sherry Dyson. The social aspect of the Internet has developed into 100 million blogs with more people starting and connecting with blogs each new day.

Blogging is an innovative way that influences both businesses and culture giving ordinary consumers and citizens a new way to interact on the Internet. Corporations, nonprofits, governments and small businesses all use blogging to communicate and interact with clients, customers and the public. Employing innovative blogging techniques helps bloggers connect with readers to provide important information and to serve as a knowledgeable resource. Every blogger should develop a unique voice by thinking of something new to blog about in a creative way. A blog is an online place of expression and a way to deviate from the established norm. Every blogger should be a leader and a voice for individual creative expression and a new way of viewing the world.

Begin with a topic and then use this subject idea to develop an interesting title to engage the attention of an audience. A blog’s headline and opening paragraph are the essential elements of a blog that will capture the imagination of the individual reading the blog and draw attention to the rest of the blog content. Develop great opening paragraphs from many inspirational ideas. Begin a blog by asking a thought-provoking question. Alternatively, share a good story. Another way to open a blog would be to engage a reader’s imagination by invoking inventive images, ideas, faraway places or encouraging the reader to remember important events. Use an analogy or metaphor to begin the blog entry. Another way to engage the attention of a blog reader is mention a scintillating news event.

Increasing the traffic to a blog takes time and effort. However, some considerations can help make a blog more attractive to readers. It is best to use a casual and conversational tone when adding blog posts that are enjoyable to read and will engage the attention of the blog audience. It is always best to write about subjects that the blogger is most knowledgeable about. For example, a hobby or industry related topic. The blogger should be passionate about the blog topic. Effective research adds credibility and value to each post. Balance content with interesting photographs and formatting to make the post more attractive to readers. Add a blog post at least three to four times a week. Blog posts should be short and respectful of the blog reader’s time. Blogs should be linked often and incorporate the use of keywords and SEO (search engine optimization) best practices. Use correct spelling and grammar to demonstrate professionalism and to make a good impression upon blog readers. Always end a blog post with a question and an invitation to readers to leave a comment about the blog they have read.

Don’t just use social media sites as the main spotlight for your business. You should have a separate business website setup. Use the social media as a way to get more traffic to your business website. You should only use the social media to advertise your business, connect with other people, network with people who have similar interests, and so on. I use Twitter a lot. I tweet my blog articles multiple times throughout the day. I share posts on Facebook multiple times a day. I blog daily on my blogging platform. I do this to get my brand out there and to get more traffic coming to my website. On all of my posts, I include a link to my website.

An advantage of having a large flow of traffic interacting on your social media site is a potential to convert customers into sales. People are on social media sites for many reasons. So you do not need to be selling them something all the time. Your social media site should be your market to draw interest in your business. If you want to convert more sales, you will need to rank high in search engines. Put keywords that you think people will search for in the market you are in. If you have a great presence on the internet, chances are you should rank high in searches. Some popular search engines are Google, Yahoo and Bing.

Interacting on your social media sites daily will be the best strategy to drive a lot of traffic to your website. Connecting with your targeted audience everyday will show that you are social and serious about your business. It will show that you are not a slacker and gain the trust of more online viewers. I post regularly on my Twitter page everyday all throughout the day. When my friends see my tweets on what I am posting, most of the time they retweet my posts and their friends become interested. I get friend requests all the time from people following my tweets and wanting to keep up with what I am talking about. Also Facebook has had a great impact on my business. I engage on my Facebook page daily. I am posting links and other information about my business multiple times a day. I do this to have a chance to consistently show up in Facebook news feed. This increases my chances of people who are not already my friends to see my page and subscribe to my page. See how social media helps increase traffic to your websites. I am also engaged in Google +, Blogger.com, LinkedIn and Pinterest. The more engaged you are on your sites, the quicker you will rank high in social media news feeds and more people will see your site.

On your social media pages always include links to your website. If you write a blog post, include your website and social media links which gives more of an opportunity for people to connect with you. Put call to action (CTA) on your website and blog posts. Give away free items to get people to subscribe. You can give them a free ebook, video or newsletters in exchange for their email.
